Hanok Guesthouse Bukchon is in Bukchon, a hillside neighbourhood of traditional Korean houses between two of the major royal palaces. Narrow lanes, tea houses and craft shops surround it. It suits couples and culture-minded travellers who want to experience the city's heritage first-hand and walk to several historic sights.
Guests sleep on a heated floor in a traditional house, which is the core of the appeal. The style is simple and serene, with timber, paper doors and a quiet courtyard feel. Bedding is typically laid out on the floor in the Korean manner, so it is a different experience from a standard hotel and has a romantic, memorable quality.
Bukchon is a residential area with sloped, narrow lanes, so travel light and expect some walking uphill. Taxis can drop you near the entrance, and the nearest subway stations are a walk away. Facilities are modest and noise rules are often strict, out of respect for neighbours. Read the booking terms and arrival instructions carefully before you travel.

Traditional houses, tea rooms and palaces. The subway is extensive, English-friendly and cheap. A T-money card works on buses, trains and many taxis.
